The future of car body construction? Challenge accepted!

The future is now. Or so it may seem when looking at some of the most recent developments in the automotive sector. Car making today is defined by considerable technological as well as political, environmental and social changes, from the connected car to the electrification of the powertrain, from the rise of new mobility concepts to the latest advancements in autonomous driving.

However, while there is no doubt that these changes have already begun to take place, it is not clear at all how they will develop and play out in the future. All of them have the potential to revolutionize the way we build cars. But which technological advancements will shape these developments, exactly? And in what way? Which trends will drivers follow in the future when choosing a car? And will they even still be drivers, or should we start calling them "users” instead?

All of this will have an impact on car body engineering as well. Engineers are soon going to have to make new decisions about design trends and weight and safety requirements as well as the use of new and established materials and joining technologies.

  • Which car body concepts and materials are most likely going to establish themselves in the future?
  • What could future production concepts and architectures look like?
  • How will alternative propulsion systems and driverless technology shape the car body design, engineering and manufacturing of tomorrow? And which solutions are there for car makers to handle the ever-rising variety of options?
  • Which kinds of insights can be gained from current concept vehicles?
  • Which technologies from the suppliers will succeed with regard to the car body construction of the future?
  • Which solutions do OEM, OES and research institutes propose for the challenges of the future of car body construction?

These and many more questions will be addressed at the Automotive Circle conference "Future Car Body 2018” which takes place in Bad Nauheim on June 13-14, 2018.
